Welcome!
I am an experienced land planner and project manager based in Addison, Texas currently transitioning into a real estate development career.
I worked in urban planning for 19 years in 3 states. Since moving to Texas in 2011, I specialized in physical land planning, where I designed subdivisions, master planned communities, and town centers. I have worked in Houston from 2011-2018 and in Dallas from 2018-present. My projects have been a mixture of residential and commercial work (retail, industrial, and office).
My portfolio is divided into two parts:
- First, I share my career goals as a developer, and I summarize the real estate training that I completed over this last year.
- Second, I describe my formal training and experience in urban planning. I included four projects in Texas (one in each asset market) where I make connections between real estate development and land planning.
I earned my Bachelors in Urban Planning from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2003. I worked in planning consulting in Chicago until 2009 and then Wichita, KS from 2009-2011. Projects included comprehensive plans, zoning ordinances, downtown design guidelines, plan review, and environmental planning, and transportation planning.
I moved to Houston in early 2011, and to Dallas in late 2018. Most of my work in Texas has been in physical land planning, designing subdivisions, master planned communities, commercial sites, and town centers.
I maintain active membership in the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) since 2008, and as a Project Management Professional (PMP) since 2017. I have 1.5 years of formal supervisory experience overseeing 2 junior planners.

This apartment development is located in Weatherford, about 27 miles west of downtown Fort Worth. A curved arterial road bisects the site into two triangular tracts. The eastern half includes 175 units of assisted-living duplexes and triplexes. The western half includes 352 apartment units in 3-story buildings. To increase the yield on both properties, buildings back onto the property lines and the road. Each tract includes a centralized amenity center and open space. Finally, entryways to both communities are aligned on the arterial road.
This property is located about 14 miles north of downtown Denton. 9 buildings provide a combined 236,000 gross square feet with a 65,000 SF grocery store as an anchor. Buildings are oriented to the curve of the major thoroughfare. The buildings are separated from the road by a double row of parking and a landscaped setback with berming. Collector roads provide access to future commercial and an existing subdivision to the south. The main entry to the retail center is aligned to a future ROW expansion for the existing school.
This industrial tract is located about 30 miles northeast of downtown Dallas. Stormwater drains south to north towards the off-site jurisdictional stream. There are (15) one- and two-story industrial buildings totaling 582,000 SF. There are four different types of flex products and are grouped together on the property.
• Flex A. 1-story office uses
• Flex B. 1-story warehouses
• Flex C: 2-story warehouse/ distribution
• Built-to-suit
Every flex type except Flex “A” has a dedicated or shared truck loading and parking area. An internal 50’ ROW provides direct access to the flex structures. This road and the arterial road to the south both have berming with extensive landscaping to screen trucks from the road.
This is a 2,400-acre master planned community located about 27 miles northwest of Houston. The central feature is a 300-acre lake, one of the largest in Texas. the plan includes several school campuses, commercial, and a 400- acre mixed-use town center. Waterways, trails, and park space connect the community.
I was on this project for 5 1/2 years, during which time I was promoted to planning manager. I supervised two junior planners on land planning, plat preparation, and variances.
Large commercial uses (pink) are located at the intersections of major thoroughfares. Three school campuses (blue bubbles) are in the western, middle, and eastern parts of the site. A large age-restricted community (dark red) is located in the middle of the tract.
This exhibit has master planning / bubble land plans for the overall tract and lot design for the first phase of development in the middle of the property.
